Tragic news has emerged as an investigation begins into the sudden deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed Thursday morning that the 95-year-old actor and his 64-year-old wife, a classical pianist, were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home, along with their dog. The bodies were discovered by authorities but were not formally identified until around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The cause of death remains unclear at this time, though foul play is not suspected.
Gene Hackman’s daughter suggested that the couple and their dog may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Hackman, known for his legendary roles in films like Superman, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Bonnie and Clyde, won two Academy Awards—Best Actor for The French Connection in 1972 and Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven in 1993. He married Betsy in 1991 and had three children with his first wife, Faye Maltese.
The tragic event has left many mourning the loss of one of Hollywood’s most iconic stars.
